Hartford Area Adult Education Programs
There are FREE, state mandated English classes for adults in Connecticut. Many offer free childcare during programs. Programs typically run Fall(September-December) and Spring(January-May). Most programs require individuals to take a placement test.

Farmington Public Schools Continuing Education
The Avon, Canton, Farmington, Region #10, and Simsbury Boards of Education offer courses in Adult Basic Education, Citizenship, High School Completion, and English as a Second Language. These courses may be FREE to residents of Avon, Burlington, Canton, Collinsville, Farmington, Harwinton, Simsbury, Unionville, and West Hartford. They take place at the Farmington Public Library and Farmington High School.
Hartford has an Adult Education Center for city residents. They offer adult English classes as well as high school diploma, family literacy, and citizenship programs.

The town of Newington offers adult education classes in English, high school diploma, and citizenship to town residents.
Adult residents of Windsor interested in English classes can call Call 860.687.2000 ext. 1271 to schedule an appointment for a placement test. Windsor also offers citizenship and high school diploma programs.
Residents of Ashford, Bolton, Colchester, Coventry, East Windsor, Ellington, Glastonbury, Griswold, Mansfield, South Windsor, Tolland, Vernon, Wethersfield, and Willington are a part of VRABE which offers English classes(as well as citizenship, family literacy, high school diploma, and CNA programs)
For residents of West Hartford, individuals first need to schedule an appointment for a placement test. After taking the placement test, the Adult Ed office will contact them with the class information. West Hartford also offers a high school diploma and a family literacy program(in partnership with the Bridge Family Resource Center at Charter Oak International Academy).
The Capitol Region Education Council(CREC) offers a variety of free and low-cost classes and programs for adults of the Greater Hartford Area. This includes English classes, high school equivalency programs, and job training.

The Jubilee House provides free English classes, Citizenship Prep, GED/ABE tutoring, summer conversation practice, and an English program for immigrant mothers and their toddlers.
